Tasting Note:
Planeta is a Sicilian powerhouse and this, from their Menfi
vineyards, is spicy, perfumed with crushed strawberry and
pleasingly finishes with a light scattering of chocolate.
Winemaking:
The 3 varietals were all harvested and vinified seperately in
order to facilitate maximum complexity, the grapes were
destemmed and crushed before maceration on skins for 10-
14 days, then ageing partly in steel vessels and partly in 2
year old barrels for 3 months.
Vineyard :
La Segreta takes its name from the woods which surround
our Ulmo vineyard. This young fresh wine principally
produced from Nero d’Avola grapes, flagship of Sicilian
wine, gains its personality and style with the addition of
some international grapes. All the vines are knowledgeably
cultivated in vineyards owned by Planeta. The altitude is
between 40 and 430 metres above sea level and vines are
planted at a density of 4500 plants per hectare with the
Guyot training system.
Food matching:
A large range of dishes complement the characters of this
wine, like pasta dishes, grilled meat or even fish soup.
Unique Point:
Translated, La Segreta means 'the secret'.This Sicilian
secret is filled with ripe berry fruit and spices, made from a
blend of Italian and French grapes.
